Code T17: Victorian Hunter Compass with Singers Patent MOP Dial by Watson Bros. London, c. 1880
This a nice Victorian compass made around 1880. It comes in a brass case in excellent condition without dings or dents. It has a strong hinge and the lid springs open as it should when the push button is pressed. Inside the lid it is stamped with a serial number: 21. The Singer's Patent dial is Mother-of-Pearl and is very beautiful and rich in colours when it is exposed to light. The dial is in excellent condition without any damage. It has a jewelled brass cap and points North without any problem. It is stamped with makers name and address: WATSON BROS., 31 COCKSPUR STREET, LONDON. The dial is covered with a glass crystal also in excellent condition without any scratches or chips. The transit lock is activated when the lid is closed to protect the pivot from wear when the compass is not used. The compass measures around 37mm in diameter excluding the pendant and ring. Would make a great gift. |
