Code BA24092301: English Hunter Compass by L. KAMM and Co., WAR SOUVENIR, c. 1917

This is a nice WW1 officers hunter compass made as a souvenir of WWI by L. KAMM of London around 1917. It is engraved MNF. by L. KAMM, LONDON, WAR SOUVENIR, 1914 - 1919. The Dennison case is Nickel plated and in excellent condition without dings or dents. It is marked with typical Dennison cases serial number 190422 M. The flat bevelled glass crystal covers the Dennison dial card. Both crystal and dial are in flawless condition. The last four digits of the inner serial number are marked next to the crystal. The compass is in full working order and finds North easily and precisely. When the release button is pressed the lid springs open as it should. The transit lock comes into play when the lid is closed. This is a fairly rare compass. It measures around 4.6cm in diameter.

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, hemanufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As partof the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally theManaging Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where hemade the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches ofRailway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
