This is a nice hunter compass made by Taylor for the United States Corps of Engineers in WWI. It is stamped U.S.C.E. on the case and Taylor on the dial. The case is brass and in excellent condition. No dings or dents. Strong hinge. The glass crystal is in flawless condition. It has a quality bar needle with a jewelled brass cap. The transit lock is automatically activated when the lid is closed. This prevents undue wear to the pivot when the compass is not in use. It points North easily and precisely. It measures around 47mm in diameter.
