This is a WW1 officers pocket compass, made by Short & Mason LTD, London made in 1916. The case is made by the Dennison Watch Case Co. and marked Short & Mason LTD., LONDON, 1916, V, 110752 with the military arrow /|\. Inside the lid engraved 78094 and the letter W. The case is Nickel and in excellent condition. The beveled glass crystal covers the distinctive Singers patent style dial card and both are in flawless condition. It is in full working order and finds North easily. When the lid is closed it activates the transit lock, which protects the pivot when the compass is not in use. The compass measures about 4.7cm in diameter. |

He was originally theManaging Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where hemade the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches ofRailway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
