| This is a WW1 military compass with Nickel case engraved Dennison Birmingham VI, 53945,1917. It has the military arrow /|\. Inside the lid, it is stamped 157939 M. The case is still in excellent condition. When the push button is pushed, the lid springs open as it should. The thick bevelled glass crystal is in excellent condition without any chips or scatches. The compass has a typical Dennison dial in excellent condition. Next to the glass stamped the last four digits of the inner serial number (7939). In full working order and finding North precisely, with strong hinge including the transit lock. It measures around 4.7cm in diameter. |

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, hemanufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As partof the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally theManaging Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where hemade the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches ofRailway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
