Code BA23110301: English Compass in Wood Box by James Parkes & Son, c. 1850

This is a nice English wood cased compass made around 1850 by James Parkes & Son. This is recognizable by the signature on the dial "TRADE MARK" with a "Left Eye". The case is very well made, with brass hinges and a hook to keep it closed. It is in nice condition without damage. The dial is also in excellent condition. It has a flat glass crystal that covers the dial. The crystal is in flawless condition. The needle has a brass cap. It has a transit lock that comes into play when the lid is closed. The compass is in working order and finds North easily. It measures 60 mm x 60 mm x 21 mm. This is a rare compass and would make a great gift.
