Code BA23040101: Victorian Barker & Son Silver Pebble Lens Compass, Hallmarked London 1898
This is a nice and rare hallmarked silver compass made in 1898. The case is solid silver and bears the Francis Barker & Son marks F. B. & Sn and the London hallmarks for year 1898. The ring is also hallmarked with a Lion Passant. The compass has slightly domed glass crystals on both sides. The case and crystals are in excellent condition without any damage. The compass could also be used as a magnifier, which is very useful for reading maps or starting a fire. The compass has a quality bar needle suspended between the two glass crystals. It has two different patterns for the dial sides. It is very precise and points North easily. It measures about 40mm in diameter. This is a fine and rare example by a quality compass maker. |
