Code BA23032201: Dennison Hunter Compass, c. 1920
This is a nice pocket compass made by the Dennison Watch Case Company around 1920. The case is Nickel and still in excellent condition without any dings or dents. It has the serial number 6893 engraved inside the front lid and on the rim of the central part of the case. The rotating dial is in excellent condition and has a quality jewelled bearing. The glass crystal is in excellent condition and free of dings or scratches. The compass is in full working order and finds North easily and precisely. It has a transit lock, which locks the dial when the lid is closed, to avoid any damage to the pivot and bearing. It measures around 4.6 cm in diameter. |

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, hemanufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As partof the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally theManaging Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where hemade the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches ofRailway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
