This is a rare compass made in England around 1880 by Ross of London. The compass has a sturdy brass case with a hinged lid. It is in excellent condition without dings or dents. The hand-painted SINGER'S PATENT mother-of-pearl dial is marked with maker's name ROSS LONDON. The dial is in excellent condition without cracks or scratches. The dial is covered with a flat glass crystal in excellent condition without any chips or scratches. The rotating dial swings freely and finds North easily. The transit lock is activated when the lid is closed. It is released when the lid is opened to use the compass. The compass measures around 35mm in diameter. It would be a nice add to any serious compass collection.
