Code BA23012001: WWII Canadian Kodak Company Leather-Cased Prismatic Compass, 1943
This is a WWII prismatic liquid-filled compass made the Canadian Kodak Company in 1943. It has a brass case with original black finish. The glass crystal of the front lid has a sighting hairline that can be used with an unfolding prism to read the bearing on the rotating mother of pearl dial. The case is in excellent condition without any damage. The rotating dial is also in excellent condition without any damage. The compass is fitted with a bezel-tightening knob. The rotating bezel is numbered from 1 to 36. The original brown friction ring is present on the back and is still in excellent condition. Inside this ring, the back is stamped ckc/C 8170 C Mk III 1943 with a broad arrow (crows foot), indicating that it was Government Army Issue. ckc is the abbreviated maker's name Canadian Kodak Company and they made the MkIII under license from Francis Barker Ltd. The compass comes in a leather case still in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. The compass is in full working order and finds North without any problem. It measures around 60 mm in diameter. |
