Code BA22112501: Antique Leather-Cased Silver Compass by Francis Barker & Son, Hallmarked London 1905
| This is a rare compass made by the famous Francis Barker & Son firm in London in 1905. The case is made of sterling silver and have silver hallmarks for London 1905. It has hallmarks on the side of the case, on the pendant and on the bow. It is also marked with the maker's mark F. B. & Sn. It is in mint condition without any dings, dents or scratches. The face is nice and has a raised chapter ring graduated every 5 degrees and numbered every 10 degrees. It is covered with a thick beveled glass crystal in excellent condition without scorches or chips. Marked on dial MADE IN ENGLAND. The compass has a quality bar needle with jewelled brass cap and points North precisely and easily. It has a transit lock that can be activated by pushing the stem. You have to pull the stem again to release the needle. It comes in a nice leather case without any kind of damage. It has a strong hinge and a button that must be pushed to open the case. Inside the lid is covered with blue lining and the base is cushioned with blue velvet. This is a large compass measuring about 54 mm in diameter. The leather case measures about 64 mm in diameter. This is a beautiful and rare compass that would make a nice addition to any compass collector. |
