Code BA22111101: Victorian Silver Hunter Compass, Hallmarked Birmingham 1897
This is a nice and rare full hunter compass made by Alfred Wigley in 1897. It comes in a solid silver case that is still in excellent condition. No dings or dents. The front lid is monogrammed and the back of the case is engraved with the date 29 Sept. 1898. Inside the lid it has clear English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1897 and makers initials A. W. (Alfred Wigley), with serial number 213. The case has a strong hinge and the front lid springs open when the push button is pressed. It has a mother-of-pearl dial, which is a real beauty. It is in excellent working order and finds North with precision. This is a small model measuring only 31mm in diameter. A beautiful and quality made compass that would make a great gift. |
