The Boreal Arrow

Code BA22101401: Small Brass French Swivel Mother-of-Pearl Compass, c. 1920

This is an unusual miniature swivelling compass made in France around 1920. It comes in a decorated brass case that still in excellent condition. The dial is made of mother-of-pearl and has rich colour. It is in excellent condition. It is covered with a thick glass crystal in flawless condition. The flat needle is blue toward the North. It is in excellent working order and finds North without any problem. When suspended as shown in the picture (the chain is not included), the compass is hidden inside its case. It looks then like an acorn. When turned over the compass reveals it self (gimbal mechanism) and indicates North without any problem. This is a very small compass with a maximum diameter of 15mm. The compass dial is only 10mm in diameter. Very nice and unusual compass that would make a great gift.
