Code BA22090601: Rare Victorian Leather-Cased Compass by Silver & Co. London, c. 1890

This is a rare victorian era, leather-cased pocket compass made by Silver & Co London. Its approximate manufacture date would be around 1890. The compass has a nice dial, signed: Silver & Co Ltd, 67 Cornhill, London. It has a unique style needle with an arrow head at North and a jewelled brass cap. The compass has a white metal case and is housed in a leather case. Both are in excellent condition. The leather case has no damage and has its brass clasp to secure the lid closed. It has beautiful red velvet inside. The compass has a needle lock mechanism that is activated when the lid is closed. This protects the pivot from shocks and undue wear when the compass is not in use. The compass is in excellent working order and points strong to North. The inner compass measures around 45 mm in diameter and the external leather case about 57 mm in diameter. Rare and beautiful compass that would make a nice gift.
