Code BA22011301: STANLEY London Engraved Compass, c. 1915

This is a rare WW1 officers compass, engraved STANLEY, LOMDOM, and military arrow /|\. The case is Nickel and in excellent condition. It is free of dings or dents. It is made by A. L. Dennison (engraved inside the back lid) and has serial number inside the front lid 6271 C. It has a strong hinge and a glass crystal that covers a distinctive Singers Patent dial card. Both are in excellent condition. In full working order, finding North without any problem. The transit lock is also in working order and is activated when the lid is closed. It measures approximately 4.7cm in diameter. Very nice and hard to find compass.

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, he manufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As part of the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally the Managing Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where he made the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches of Railway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
