Code BA21092501: Victorian Barker & Son Silver Compass, Hallmarked London 1895
This is a nice and rare hallmarked silver compass made in 1895. The case is solid silver and bears the Francis Barker & Son marks F.B. & S and the London hallmarks for year 1895. The ring is also hallmarked with a Lion Passant. The compass has slightly domed glass crystals on both sides. The case and crystals are in excellent condition for their age. The compass could also be used as a magnifier. The compass has a quality bar needle suspended between the two glass crystals. It has two different patterns for the dial sides. It is very precise and points North easily. It comes in a leather/wood case still in excellent condition with a strong hinge and a hook to open/close the case. The compass measures 35mm in diameter and the leather case has 42mm diameter. This is a fine and rare example by a quality compass maker. |
