The Boreal Arrow

Code BA21091402: English Hunter Antique Compass, c. 1920

This is a nice small hunter compass made in England around 1920. The case is made of an oxidized metal still in excellent condition for its age as seen in the pictures. No dings or dents. On the back it is engraved with personal inscriptions: S. O. BURKE FROM D. O. GOLDSMITH, and dated 27/10/1940. Inside the lid it is engraved with the serial number 633 X. The hinge is strong and the lid springs open as it should when the button is pushed. The compass has a nice dial with cardinal and sub cardinal points. The dial is stamped ENGLAND. It also has a raised chapter ring numbered every 20 degrees and graduated every 5 degrees. It has a quality bar needle that comes level with the raised chapter ring, with a jewelled brass cap that sits on a steel bearing. When the lid is closed, the needle is locked to avoid damage to the pivot or bearing. The compass is very precise and finds North without any problem. The compass measures around 37mm in diameter.
