Code BA21061901: Victorian Wood-Cased Antique Compass with Porcelain Dial, c. 1860
This is a small and rare antique wood-cased pocket travelling compass made in England around 1860. The compass has a Nickel case still in excellent condition without any damage. The wooden case is cushioned and fabric lined to the inner lid. It is still in excellent condition, closes and opens as it should. It has a very nice honey shades of colours. The compass has a quality bar needle with a jewelled brass cap. The needle moves freely and points North without any problem. It has a small knob under the loop, when pushed the transit lock is activated to freeze the needle and prevent damage to its bearing. The compass has a nice porcelain dial in excellent condition without any chips or scratches. It is covered with a bevelled glass crystal in excellent condition without any chips or scratches. This is a small version of this kind of compasses measuring around 27mm in diameter. The external case measures around 55mm in diameter. Nice and rare example that has great value for the serious collector. |
