Code BA19022501: Nautical Hunter Gilt Compass by Heath & Co. London, c. 1890
This is a nice Victorian compass dating back to circa 1890. It has a nice floating dial with Nautical pattern typically used in the late 1800s. It is signed Heath & Co. LTD. Crayford, London. It has a quality jewelled brass cap and is covered with a glass crystal in excellent condition without chips or scratches. The case is gilt brass and still in nice condition for its age. It has a strong hinge and the lid springs open when the button under the loop is pushed. The compass is in excellent working order and finds North easily and precisely. It has also a transit lock that comes into play when the lid is closed. This prevents undue wear to the pivot when the compass is not in use. The compass measures around 46mm in diameter. Very nice and quality compass. |
