The Boreal Arrow

Code BA15083001: English Compass in Wood Box by James Parkes & Son, c. 1850

This is a nice English wood cased compass made around 1850 by James Parkes & Son. This is recognizable by the signature on the dial "TRADE MARK" with an "Eye". The case is very well made, with brass hinges and a hook to keep it closed. It is in nice condition without damage. The dial is also in excellent condition.  It has a flat glass crystal that covers the dial. The crystal is in flawless condition. The needle has a brass cap. It is blue with a golden N to North. It has a transit lock that comes into play when the lid is closed. The compass is in working order and finds North easily. It measures 82 mm x 82 mm x 22 mm. This is a rare compass and still in nice collectable condition.
