Code BA15070501: Solid Silver Hunter Compass with Hallmarks 1873 by Chadburn & Son
This is a nice and rare full hunter compass made by Chadburn & Son in 1873. This is one of the smallest hunter models by this maker since it measures only 31mm in diameter. It comes in a solid silver case that is still in excellent condition. No dings or dents. On the back and inside the lid it has clear English silver hallmarks for London 1873 and maker' initials: SG. The front is engraved with the Gilpin family crest and motto: Dictis factisque simplex (Simple in words and deeds). The case has a strong hinge and the front lid springs open when the push button is pressed. It has a SINGER'S Patented mother-of-pearl dial, which is a real beauty. The dial is signed CHADBURN & SON, LIVERPOOL. In full working order and finding North without any problem. The transit lock is also functional and activated when lid is closed. This is a beautiful and very hard to find compass that would make a great gift. |
