Code BA1503221: Antique Leather-Cased Victorian Compendium by Negretti & Zambra of LONDON, c. 1900
This is a nice and rare victorian compendium with a compass and a barometer. It has a gilt brass case still in excellent condition. There is also a personal inscription on the compass side: E. R. FROM L. S., 1929. The compass has a blue needle marked with golden N and S. It has a nice dial and a raised chapter ring with cardinal points. It is in working order and finds North easily and precisely. It is covered with a beveled glass crystal free of chips or scratches. The barometer is also in excellent condition with a clean dial signed NEGRETTI & ZAMBRA, LONDON with serial number 11548. It is also marked Compensated. It is numbered in inches of mercury (from 21 to 31) and in feet (from 0 to 10000). It is marked with indications to weather changes (RAIN, CHANGE, FAIR). The barometer dial is covered with a glass crystal free of chips or scratches. The barometer is in working order and passed the air bag pressure test. The compendium comes in its original leather case still in excellent condition. It has an opening to allow using the compass while closed. The push button is present and allows the case to open and close as it should. It has a strong hinge. The instrument measures 48mm in diameter and is 23mm thick. The external leather-case measures 59mm in diameter. Very nice and quality instrument, well preserved after all these years. |
