The Boreal Arrow

This is an extremely rare French sundial compass made around 1900. The hunter case is made nickel plated brass. It is in excellent condition with only some normal signs of use. It has a strong hinge and the lid springs open to a right angle when the button is pushed. It is numbered 15 inside the from the lid. The inner dial is made of a white silvered metal with English cardinal points. The dial is graduated in degrees and numbered every 20 degrees (0 to 360 at North). It is marked Made in France. It is covered with a beveled glass crystal in excellent condition without chips or scratches. The compass can be used with a folding gnomon bar to read the solar time. It has also a little bird to read the graduation on the gnomon. The compass is precise and points North without any problem. The needle is automatically locked the lid is closed. This prevents undue wear to the pivot when the compass is not in use. The needle is blue and silver. Diameter of the case is 56mm. This is a nice a rare example that would make a nice add to any serious collection.
