Code BA131115513: English Sterling Silver Hunter Compass by Negretti & Zambra, 1902

This is a nice English solid silver hunter compass made by F. Barker & Son for Negretti & Zambra in 1902. The case is sterling silver and has several hallmarks for London 1902. It is in excellent condition and free of dings or dents. It has a strong hinge and springs open when the button is pushed. Inside the front lid the maker's mark has been erased. However, it is found intact inside the case under the compass component. The dial is made of a transparent material with a very special design. It is called a Mica dial. This material was used on old lanterns as a substitute of glass. It is very lightweight and fireproof. It is clearly signed with retailer name Negretti & Zambra, London. The rotating dial points North easily and precisely. It is covered with flat glass crystal free of chips or scratches. When the lid is closed it activates a transit lock that freezes the dial when the compass is not in use. The case measures 47mm in diameter.
