This is an antique late Georgian period c. 1830's top quality solid silver revolving sundial. It is a hand-made copy of a Johann Somer instrument dating back to the 1600s. It has two revolving rings to a central set revolving gauge with slider indicator. It is being based on the universal equinoctial ring sundial, used by sailors and mathematicians throughout the ages. It can determine True North and be used as a sun compass. It can also be worn as a piece of jewellery or as a fob item. It measures 59 mm in diameter and 71 mm in length from base rim to pendant. It is in excellent condition with no damage. It tests sterling silver. weight : 34.4 g |
