Code BA13061590: WWI Marching Compass by CHAS. BAKER
This is a WW1 Verners pattern MKV or MKVI military marching compass with leather case. Made by CHAS. BAKER LONDON. Has the traditional mother of pearl dial, for low light reading with the black direction arrow intact. The brass lid retains virtually all of its original finish with a strong hinge. Has brass knob on the side for transit locking of dial. The compass has also a magnifying lens for precise angles calculation (for target engagement). The compass is marked on the back: CHAS. BAKER., 244 HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON with serial number 92072. on the front lid it is marked: SERVICE PATTERN, PRISMATIC COMPASS. The compass and leather case are in excellent condition. The flat glass crystal is in excellent condition without any chips or scratches. The leather case is stamped J. G. C. LEECH. This same information is also engraved on the rim of the back of the compass. On the leather case it is also marked with a name: A. L. B. JACOB. This is a fine example by a quality maker.
