Code BA13040215: German Conpendium, c. 1900
This is a rare German compendium. It contains three instruments: a compass, a barometer and a thermometer. I would place its manufacture date around 1900. It comes in an oval leather case that is still in excellent condition without any damage. The case has tow lids. The first one contains the compass and the second one contains the thermometer. The central part contains the barometer. The two lids open and close as they should without any problem. Hinges are strong in their original condition. The compendium may be displayed by using the easel back. The compass: The compass has a silver colored dial with cardinal points graduated every 4 degrees and numbered every 40 degrees. It has a quality bar needle with a jeweled brass cap. The needle can be locked/released by sliding a small lever at the side of the case. The case is nickel plated and in excellent condition without any dings or dents. The beveled glass crystal is in excellent condition without scratches or chips. The compass is in full working order and points North easily and precisely. It is small and measures 26mm in diameter. The barometer: The barometer is also in excellent condition. It also comes with a rotating bezel for the use of the altimeter function. It is marked COMPENSIRT (COMPENSATED). The case is nickel plated and in excellent condition without dings or dents. The barometer is in full working order and has been tested with an air bag. Measures 54mm in diameter. The thermometer: The thermometer is graduated in Celsius and Reaumur degrees. It is in working order (reading precise temperature). This is a nice quality pocket combination set that would make a nice gift. |
