The Boreal Arrow

Code BA13031946: Leather-cased Compass by F. Barker and Son, c. 1900

This a nice leather cased compass dating from early 1900. The compass is fitted in a nice brown leather case with blue velvet inside the lid. The case is in excellent without any kind of damage. It is clearly stamped with maker's mark: TRADE MARK LONDON, F. B. & S. (Francis Barker & Son). The compass has a floating dial, which is a variation of the Singer's Patent dial. It is clraly signed: F. BARKER & SON, MAKERS, LONDON. It has a bezel that can be rotated to activate the transit lock which freezes the dial and prevents undue wear to the pivot when the compass is not in use. It is covered with a thick flat glass crystal free of chips or scratches. The outer case measures 59mm in diameter and 28mm height. It is in working order and finds North without any problem. This is a rare compass and is virtually in mint condition.
