The Boreal Arrow

Code BA13031023: Victorian Barker & Son Silver Compass, Hallmarked London 1896

This is a nice and rare hallmarked silver compass made in 1896. The case is solid silver and bears the Francis Barker & Son marks F.B. & S and the London hallmarks for year 1896. The ring is also hallmarked with a Lion Passant. The compass has slightly domed glass crystals on both sides. The case and crystals are in excellent condition without damage. The compass could also be used as a magnifier. The compass has a quality bar needle suspended between the two glass crystals. It has two different patterns for the dial sides. It is very precise and points North easily. It comes in its original leather/wood case still in excellent condition with a strong hinge and a push button to open/close the case. The lid clicks when closed as it should. The compass measures 40mm in diameter and the leather case has 49mm diameter. This is a fine and rare example by a quality compass maker.
