Code BA12112968: Silver Gimbaled Compass and Egg Bobbin, 1872 London Hallmarks
| This is an extremely rare gimballed compass attached to a bobbin both are made of sterling silver with London Hallmarks 1872. The compass has an enamel dial in excellent condition without cracks or chips. It has a quality bar needle with a jewelled brass cap. The dial is covered with a flat glass crystal free of chips or scratches. The compass is in excellent working order and points North without any problem. The bobbin is in excellent condition and has matching hallmarks. It has a strong hinge, closes and opens as it should. Both compass and bobbin were made by Thomas Johnson and retailed Thornhill, 144 Bond Street london. Both compass and bobbin feature a crown on top of a monogram. They are attached to each other with a silver chain. This is an extremely rare item for the serious collector. The compass measures 31x27mm with 24mm as diameter. The bobbin measures 45x35mm. |
