Code BA12092040: Singer's Patent Hunter Sterling Silver Compass, Hallmarked London 1872

This is a rare English full hunter compass made in 1872. It comes in a sterling silver case hallmarked for London 1872. The are several hallmarks on the case: The bow is stamped with a Lion Passant. The Pendant is hallmarked with a Lion Passant and the letterx. On the other side the pendant is stamped T. B. Inside the front lid it is hallmarked with the maker's initials B. A. G., a Lion Passant and the letter r. Inside the case, it is hallmarked with maker's initials B. A. G., a Lion Passant, Lion Head, Queen's Head, and letter r. The case is engine turned and still in excellent condition without any dings or dents. It has a strong hinge and the lid springs open to a right angle when the push button is pressed. It has an empty shield at the centre, ready to be engraved. The dial is painted Mother-Of-Pearl and is still in excellent condition showing nice colours when exposed to light. It is signed SINGER's PATENT, and numbered 16937. It features a Lyre and Sun at North. It has a jewelled brass cap and finds North precisely. When the lid is closed a transit lock freezes the dial to avoid undue wear to the pivot. The dial is covered with a bevelled glass crystal still in excellent condition. The diameter of the case is 48mm excluding the pendant and the ring. This is a rare find for the serious collector, especially in this condition.
