The Boreal Arrow
Code BA12071023: Hunter Compass by HUGHES and Son, London c. 1865
This is a beautiful and rare full hunter compass made by the famous HUGHES & SON in LONDON around 1865. There are only few of these compasses and no one is like the other. The case is made of Nickel plated brass. It is free of dings or dents but has some loss of plating on the font lid. It has a strong hinge and springs open when the push button is pressed. It has a SINGER PATENT dial numbered 3363A, which dates this compass to c. 1865 since all SINGER PATENT numbered dials were produced between 1861 and 1868. The dial is signed with maker's name. It measures 38mm in diameter. This is a beautiful compass that would make a great gift.
