The Boreal Arrow

Code BA12021201: Rare Early 1900s "The Lynx" Compass Binocular by Lawrence & Mayo

This is a really well made pair of antique binoculars - they feel a good weight and are very smooth in operation. The big surprise is the built in compass, fully functioning, under the hinged lid bearing the maker's name - Lawrence & Mayo. These are from the early 1900s, maybe from the time of the first World War although there are no markings to suggest a military use. The binoculars are in nice original condition with no fungus or scratches on the lenses and do work well giving a nice clear image, not very powerful but great for general bird watching, etc. The casing is made of brass. The compass has a design registration number on the dial of 300906. The Singer's Patent floating dial is made of mother-of-pearl. The compass has a transit lock activated when the lid id closed. The binocular can be adjusted for sight by acting on the central wheel. It measures approximately 10cm wide x 5cm deep; expanding from 7cm to 10cm when fully opened. Very nice and quality binoculars.
