This is a superb solid silver working fob compass with Silver Hallmarks for Birmingham 1898 and bearing the maker's mark W. O (William Oliver). The case has the form of a horseshoe. It is in excellent condition without dings or dents. On the back, it has hand-engraved scrollwork. The compass is covered with a thick hand-cut and shaped glass crystal. It is in excellent condition and free of chips or scratches. The compass has a nice dial and a small blue needle free of rust. It is extremely precise, which is very rare on this kind of instrument. The compass measures around 29mm from bottom to top. It could be added to a watch fob chain or simply worn as a piece of jewellery. |
