The Boreal Arrow

Code BA11071422: Singer MOP Dial Solid Silver Compass, 1864

This is a nice English compass made in London in 1864. It comes in a solid silver case with silver hallmarks corresponding to London 1864. The maker's initials were erased for an unknown reason ! The case back is engine turned and still in excellent condition for its age with only normal signs of use. No dents. The center of the back is not engraved. The mother-of-pearl dial is in excellent condition. It is marked SINGER'S PATENT 7272, which also confirms the hallmarks since all numbered Singer's dials were made between 1861 and 1868. The dial has a brass jeweled cap. It is covered with a flat beveled glass crystal in excellent condition without damage. The ring is also made of silver and is hallmarked with a Lion Passant. The transit lock can be activated/deactivated by pushing/pulling the stem. The case measures 39mm in diameter excluding the pendant and the ring. A nice and rare quality compass.
