Code BA11051741.4: Rockford Private Label Solid Silver Hidden Key 18S Pocket Watch

This is a vintage 18 size (55cm in diameter) ROCKFORD key pocket watch dating from c. 1884, with 3 Oz COIN SILVER swing-out open face case in full working order and keeping excellent time. It comes with a winding key. This watch is very unusual.

First, it has a hidden key fixed to the crown. You have to unscrew the crown to use the key. The key has the correct size to wind and set the watch.

Second, it is a swing-out type case that is not very common (see pictures).

Third, it is a private label (see below the description of the movement).

The case is  in excellent condition.  No dings or dents. Inside back lid engraved FAHYS COIN with serial number  C731. Inside dust cover marked 3PAT. APR. 22 1884 " July 1" 3 (weight = 3Oz) and serial number. All hinges are strong and all lids open and close as they should. The face is white with black Roman numerals marking the hour. An inside center dial exists with black numbers marked in increments of 10 up to 60. The center of the face is stamped ROCKFORD WATCH CO., ILLINOIS. The dial is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures without any damage.  Hands are Rockford original and in excellent condition. The glass crystal is in excellent condition without any scratches or chips. The movement is immaculate. It is key wind/set, engraved with private label Geo Cullen, Huntington, W. VA, with serial number 5335 (very low serial number), which dates this watch to c.1884. It is running strong and keeps excellent time.
