Code BA24061702: First World War Era Ceebynite Dennison Cased Compass, c. 1915
| This is a nice Ceebynite compass made by Taylor around 1915. Marked CEEBYNITE, Short & Mason, LONDON, ENGLAND, TYCOS on dial. The case is made by the famous Dennison Watch Case Co.. It is nickel and in excellent condition without dings or dents. Inside the lid, it is engraved with the serial number 224815 W. The last four digits of the serial number are also engraved on the rim of the case. The hinge is strong and the transit lock is functional. Inside the back lid (not visible unless the back is remved), it is marked: CUPREL REG'D, DENNISON WATCH CASE CO. LTD., MADE IN ENGLAND. The glass crystal is in excellent condition. No damage. In perfect working order and finds magnetic North easily. It measures around 4.5cm in diameter. |

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, he manufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As part of the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally the Managing Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where he made the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches of Railway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
