The Boreal Arrow

Code BA22112701: Antique French Sundial Compass, c. 1900

This is an extremely rare French sundial compass made around 1900. The hunter case is made of nickel plated brass and still in excellent condition without ant damage. The inner dial is made of silvered metal with French cardinal points. The dial is graduated every 2 degrees and numbered every 20 degrees (0 to 360 at North). It is covered with a glass crystal in excellent condition without chips or scratches. The compass can be used with a folding gnomon bar to read the solar time. It has also a little bird to read the graduation on the gnomon. The compass is precise and points North without any problem. The needle can be blocked by acting on the transit lock on the side of the compass to prevent wear to the pivot when the compass is not in use. The needle is blue and silver in colour. Diameter of the case is approximately 46mm making this example, the smallest I've ever seen of its kind.
