Code BA21020901: Victorian Leather-Cased Pocket Compass with Porcelain Dial, c. 1870

This is a nice and rare antique leather-cased pocket travelling compass made in England around 1870. The compass case is made of gilt brass and still in excellent condition without any damage. The leathered-wooden case is cushioned and fabric lined to the inner lid. It is still in excellent condition, closes and opens as it should. The compass has a quality bar needle with a jewelled brass cap. The needle moves freely and points North without any problem. It has a small knob under the loop, when pushed the transit lock is activated to freeze the needle and prevent damage to its bearing. The compass has a nice porcelain dial in excellent condition without any chips or scratches. It is covered with an undamaged bevelled glass crystal. It measures around 44mm in diameter. The leather case measures around 55mm in diameter. Nice and rare example that has great value for the serious collector.
