The Boreal Arrow

Code BA15052401: Antique Victorian Mini Leather-Cased Compass, c. 1881

This is a nice open-face victorian compass dating back to circa 1881. The compass case is made of gilt metal and still in excellent condition without dings or dents. It is engraved on the back : "Les Rasses Evolena-Arolla, August & September 1881". It has a quality bar needle with jeweled brass cap. To release it and use the compass the button must be pulled out. It is covered with a beveled glass crystal slightly convex in excellent condition free of chips or scratches. The compass is in excellent working order and finds North easily and precisely. Under the loop there is a push/pull button that will lock/release the needle to prevent wear to the pivot when the compass is not in use. The leather case is in excellent condition with no damage or loss to the leather skin. The hook is present and secures the lid closed as it should. The compass is really small in size measuring 31mm in diameter excluding the pendant and ring. The external leather case measures 39mm in diameter. Very nice and quality compass.
