The Boreal Arrow

Code BA141219699: Victorian Compass in Wood Case - c. 1860

This is a mahogany cased pocket compass manufactured around 1860. It measures approximately 89 mm x 89 mm x 22 mm. It has strong hinges, opens and closes as it should with two hooks to keep the lid securely closed. It is in excellent condition with only a small crack to the edge of the case due to the working of the wood over the years, but nothing serious. It is in perfect working order and finds magnetic North easily and precisely. The needle has a brass cap and locks automatically when cover is closed. The compass is covered with a flat glass crystal in flawless condition. Very interesting and quality example of the mid 1800s.
