Code BA12102277: Antique G. C. BATEMAN, READING Hunter Compass, c. 1900
This is a rare hunter compass made by either Francis Barker & Son or Short & Mason in the early 1900 for G. C. BATEMAN, READING. The compass has a sturdy brass case, in excellent condition, with a nice patina. It is a "snap cover case" (no spring). The case is much thicker compared to a spring loaded case. It is marked G. C. BATEMAN, READING inside the front lid. It has also the serial number 31. The compass has a quality bar needle with a jeweled brass cap. The beveled glass crystal is in excellent condition. No chips or scratches. It has a red cross underneath. It is in full working order and finds North easily. Has also a transit lock activated when the lid is closed. This is a nice and quality small compass measuring approximately 40mm in diameter not including the ring.
