The Boreal Arrow
Code BA12081944: Nautical Compass in Wood Box c. 1800
This is a large and nice English wood cased compass in dating from around 1800. The case is very well made, with brass hinges and a hook to keep it closed. The dial is very nicely detailed and has typical nautical design. It features a ship on each cardinal point. It has a flat glass crystal that covers the dial. The crystal is in excellent condition without chips or scratches. The needle has a crown shaped brass cap. It is blue with S and N engraved to each side. It has a transit lock when the lid is closed. Very fine example. The compass is in working order and finds North easily. It is very large when compared to similar compasses. It measures 94 mm x 94 mm x 22 mm. With its unique nautical theme, it would make a great gift.
