Code BA12012572: WWI Dennison Hunter Compass, c. 1917

This is a full hunter compass made by Dennison dating from WWI era. The case is Nickel in excellent condition without dings or dents. Inside back lid, it is engraved Dennison Watch Case Co., MADE IN ENGLAND. Inside front lid as all Dennison cases it is stamped with a serial number and the letter M or W: 187985 M. The last four digits of this serial number can also be seen on the edge next to the glass crystal. When the button is pushed the front lid springs open and does not travel beyond the recommended right angle. Beveled glass crystal is in excellent condition. The quality Dennison dial has a jeweled brass cap. In full working order and finding North precisely, with strong hinge including the transit lock. Size 4.7cm in diameter.

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, he manufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As part of the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally the Managing Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where he made the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches of Railway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
