Code BA11101625: Huge Sighting ELLIOTT BROs Compass, c. 1860 

This is a huge and unusual sighting compass made by Elliott Brothers in London. This compass is unusual with its light green colored dial. It is beautifully decorated and is graduated down to 1/3 of a degree. If you look to the pictures you will see that it is very large (97mm in diameter). The case is made of heavy brass and in excellent condition without dings or damage. The dial is marked ELLIOTT BROs, STRAND, LONDON. It is covered with a glass crystal in excellent condition without chips or scratches. The sighting vane operates as a transit lock. Everything is present and in working order. By reading the history of  Elliott Brothers, you will find that this compass was manufactured between 1854 and 1865. It comes in its original case with an inscription inside (see pictures). The case dimensions are: 15.3cm x 13.3cm x 5cm. It is in excellent condition without damage. This a nice, quality and extremely rare compass that would make a special gift.
