Code BA10112014: Antique c. 1870 Gimbaled Compass
This is a rare and huge gimbaled English ships compass. It is quite heavy (879 g) and ideal to be used on board a ship or to display on a desk. The cylindrical external case is brass and still in excellent condition without dings or dents. You have to remove the cover to discover a nice gimbaled compass with very nice dry rotating card. The design of the dial typically dates this compass to around 1870. Dial and glass crystal are in excellent condition free of chips or scratches. The gimbals are very sensitive and work great. The compass is also in excellent working order and finding North easily. The diameter of the case is 11cm.
