This is a beautiful and
extremely rare full hunter solid silver compass made by the famous
Negretti & Zambra firm in London. The case has its old original
finish as can be seen in the pictures. It has a little kink to the back
but nothing serious with strong hinge and springs open to a right angle
when the button is pushed. The case has the inscription VERITAS
SUPERABIT MONTES , which in Latin means "TRUTH WILL OVERCOME THE
MOUNTAINS". It has also a nice scene with a dear. Inside the lid it is
stamped with London silver hallmarks and dates this compass to
1876. Please note that the serial number is 1, which means
that this is the first compass of this model. The glass is in excellent
condition with no scratches or chips. The mother-of-pearl dial is a real
beauty. It is marked NEGRETTI & ZAMBRA, LONDON, SINGER'S PATENT. It
measures 3.4 cm in diameter. This is a beautiful and extremely rare
compass that would make a great gift. |
